PRESS RELEASE

European waste markets all set for change

Chris Hadley Consulting has recently completed two studies into the Western European waste sector for international publisher Frost & Sullivan. The reports, focusing on the hazardous waste management services and MSW service sectors suggest that both markets are passing through one of the most challenging periods in their recent history.

Key to the future development of both markets are changes in legislation concerning the treatment and disposal of waste that have been brought about by the EU. The hazardous waste market has the additional complexity of the recent widening of the definition of hazardous waste that is set to bring about an expansion in minimisation and recovery operations in particular. Turning to the municipal sector, the movement away from landfill dominates thinking across Europe. Alternatives being pursued vary on a country-by-country basis with recovery, pre-treatment MRFs/MBT plants, biological treatment and thermal treatment all playing their part and all expected to see growth in volumes being treated.

Both reports present detailed reviews of these markets and their individual segments with volume and revenue projections provided to 2012. Detailed analysis of current pricing strategies and the competitive environment in individual country’s and market segments are also offered.

More information on either report can be obtained from Frost & Sullivan (www.frost.com) or by telephoning 020 7730 3438.
